2006 Year in Review: May

At the AGM in May, the winner of the inaugural Nambucca Valley Writers' Group Writing Competition was announced and Diane Curran took out both first and second prize with two collage poems, and took possession of the beautiful Foundation President's Trophy for a year. The trophy was donated by Anne Holgate (pictured) who was the founding president and is now a Life Member of the group.

Jennifer Gordon won third prize with a conventional poem (although she is the group's Collage Poetry Queen).

This is the winning poem:

Yesterday, her brain was dead

Toast

- Nothing unusual.

Today, the boss is yelling

On the nose

Out of control

A real tyrant.

She's

haunted by

over-the-top

rumours.

drama,

secrets,

the power clique.

Everyone has had their say.

Blah blah blah.

She's a mess

hiding behind

the nightmare

One mistake could ruin your life.

But

after a month of psychotherapy

she's brainwashed.

Diane Curran 2006

The 2007 Writing Competition is for an essay of 1500 words or less and entries will close at the meeting in January.
